Commissione Internazionale sull'assassinio di Rafiq Hariri: 12 mesi di proroga

L'inchiesta internazionale sull'assassinio dell'ex premier libanese Rafik Hariri, ucciso il 14/02/2005, verrà prorogata di un anno: lo ha deciso il 21 Marzo scorso il Consiglio di Sicurezza dell'Onu. La commissione delle Nazioni Unite che indaga sul caso Hariri avrà altri dodici mesi per terminare i suoi lavori, ha spiegato alla stampa il rappresentante permanente francese all'Onu Jean-Marc de la Sabliere.
L'ambasciatore ha aggiunto che tutti i quindici membri del Consiglio di Sicurezza (tra cui l'Italia membro non permanente per due anni) hanno accolto la richiesta del governo di Beirut di prolungare il mandato della commissione.
Serge Brammertz, il magistrato belga che guida gli ispettori Onu, ha fatto al Consiglio di Sicurezza un nuovo punto sulle indagini, spiegando che le ragioni del delitto vanno cercate nelle attività politiche dell'ex premier.
"La commissione -ha detto Brammertz nel suo intervento- ha decisamente ridotto il campo delle indagini, concentrandosi sulle ragioni dell'omicidio che sono legate alle sue attività politiche".

Impressions on a great concert: Damien Rice live at Conservatorio Sala Verdi, Milan 18 March 2007

Premise: Lisa has not been present , doh!
In the afternoon, Vyv, asked about rumours on Lisa's absence, she said Lisa hasn't really quit but "she won't be on stage tonight". She looked like she was carefully choosing words and maybe trying to say a bit more without actually saying the whole story.
After the concert, a girl asked "is Lisa not touring with you?" and Damo replied "she was..." then paused and finished with "... but not anymore" and looked at her as though she shouldn't ask anything else.

Update 26 March: Now it is official :-(
"After much thought and discussion Damien has decided that his professional relationship with Lisa Hannigan has run its creative course. As a result Lisa will not be appearing at any of the upcoming live shows. Lisa is embarking on her own artistic endeavours and there are no plans for them to work together in the foreseeable future. The current band on tour at the moment are - Damien Rice, Joel Shearer, Shane Fitzsimons, Tom Osander & Vyvienne Long"

When he started singing my head was pulsing like my heart had moved there... it was my first Damien concert and I was totally out of myself!

My highlights:
- In Accidental Babies he totally messed up the lyrics twice...:P but both the intro and the long ending at the piano went on forever and were absolutely beautiful!
- He started playing woman like a man but his guitar was out of tune so he started fixing it and since it took him some time, Vyv started palying with shadows on the wall and helped with her hand Damien's shadow... Unfortunately he decided to change the song after that and played Amie.
- He talked a lot... but a certain point he wondered if anyone in the crowd talked English because we were all too quiet I guess... :P he told us the usual story for Amie... a long story for Volcano (but I missed part of it because of my far from perfect English) and he also introduced I remember and Coconut Skins... which was my favourit! About being a kid and wanting to dig a hole to get to the other side of the earth... it was lovely!
- I kind of liked the lack of drums I think Tomo did an awesome job with congas.
- After Volcano, a lot of people asked about Lisa but Damien didn't say anything...

Perche' Sanremo e' Sanremo

A volte lamentarsi del Festival è come sparare sulla Croce Rossa, come dire a me fanno schifo i realities e poi ci sono 10 milioni ogni giovedì a vedere il GF, come dire che il sequel di un film non è mai come il primo l'originale, come dire che il libro è sempre più bello del film che ispira, etc ... luoghi comuni.

Non ho avuto modo di seguirlo il Festival (non per pregiudizio, avevo altro da fare in quelle sere), ma durante l'ultima serata mi è capitato di assistere alla performance dei Velvet e mentre il cantante si esibiva, è sceso in platea e cantando
[...]
oggi è un giorno tutto da rifare
distruggere e riconquistare
oggi ho conosciuto te
sotto una pioggia di stelle
la luce ed i miei guai[...]
ha preso la mano di una ragazza (la sua) e l'ha baciata.
A me il gesto è piaciuto molto... l'ho trovato di un romanticismo e di una tenerezza immensi...

Certo, mi potrete dire, "era una trovata commerciale", visto che lei aveva scritto sulla mano HOPE (...come il chitarrista Charlie nella serie LOST?????) ....

Oltre la siepe: sguardi sull'orizzonte globale

Il Dipartimento di Studi Politici dell'Ateneo organizza 'Oltre la siepe: sguardi sull'orizzonte globale', ciclo di incontri per approfondire alcune delle tematiche più calde di interesse internazionale. Dal 1 marzo al 14 giugno, con cadenza quindicinale, 11 appuntamenti per decostruire il 'puzzle globale'. Studiosi affermati e giovani ricercatori si confrontano per suggerirne nuove ricostruzioni attraverso le categorie politologiche di democrazia, impero, identità e conflitto.Ogni partecipante trova il suo percorso tra i “tasselli” proposti, che spaziano dal Medio Oriente alla Cina, dall’India all’America Latina, dalla Russia all’Africa Subsahariana.
Il secondo incontro è previsto per il 15 marzo sul tema
'Il caso del Libano: democrazia araba o democrazia occidentale non riuscita?'

Lesson #3:- How to prepare ... Tabbouleh

Previously:

Ingredients:

1 cup burghul
1 tablespoon finely chopped green onions
1 tablespoon chopped white onions
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper (a mixture of black and sweet pepper)
5 bunches of parsley
2 bunches of mint
2 medium tomatoes, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
Tender grape leaves, lettuce or cabbage
Method
Wash burghul half an hour before preparing the tabbouleh. Cut into small pieces the tomatoes and onions. Chop parsley and mint very fine. Rub white onion with a little salt and pepper. Mix all the ingredients well adding oil and lemon juice gradually. Serve on a platter and serve with it lettuce or grape leaves or cabbage or all three if available.
Tip
It is often eaten by scooping it up in Romaine lettuce leaves
Variations
A suggestion is to add 1 chopped cucumber and and one cup whole fresh peas or chickpeas. I always add the cucumber and the chickpeas.

Ingredienti:

1 tazza di bulgur crudo
4 tazze d'acqua
Fare bollire per 20 minuti, lasciare raffreddare, refrigerare per una notte.
1/4 tazza di olio extra vergine d'oliva da spremitura a freddo
il succo di un lime grande e sugoso
2 cucchiai di cipolla tritata
2 grandi spicchi d'aglio, schiacciati o tritati
un pugno di foglie di basilico fresco, tritate
alcuni rametti di lemon basil, tagliati
1 cucchiaino e 1/2 timo
1/2 cucchiaino di caienna
1/2 cucchiaino di sale marino
1 cucchiaino di pepe nero terra
5 germogli di prezzemolo
2 germogli di menta
2 cetrioli medi - di cui 1 e 1/2 tagliati a cubetti di un centimetro, mentre l'altro 1/2 va conservato per guarnire
2 o 3 pomodori, in cubetti o tagliati a spicchi
1 cucchiaio di Sumak (spezia in polvere)
Preparazione:
Combinare gli ingredienti il giorno prima, e refrigerare durante la notte.
Mettere il bulgur in una pentola, salare e coprire con acqua tiepida (il livello dell'acqua dovrebbe essere circa 1cm sopra quello del bulgur). Portare a ebollizione e cuocere per circa un'ora, scolare e sfreddare con acqua corrente. Pelare e pulire i pomodori (eliminare il centro e i semini), e tagliarli a dadini. Lavare il prezzemolo, le foglie vanno tagliate a pezzi grossi. Pulire le cipolle d'inverno, tagliare la parte verde a "fettine" sottili. Spellare l'aglio e tagliarlo a fettine sottili. Mischiare tutti gli ingredienti in una insalatiera capiente, condire con sale, pepe, sumak, succo di limone, olio, e mescolare bene. Affettare il 1/2 cetriolo e tagliare le fette in semicerchi. Disporle verticalmente lungo il bordo della ciotola, con il lato piatto in basso, per creare l'effetto 'smerlettato'. Combinare gli ingredienti appena prima di servire, perché le verdure tendono a colare liquido e mescolando troppo in anticipo avrete una 'zuppa' sul fondo del recipiente. Prima di servire, lasciar raffreddare in frigo per un'oretta.

Il convegno si prefigge di presentare il Libano contemporaneo e prevede la partecipazione di professori e ricercatori a livello internazionale. Scopo del convegno è di offrire una panoramica del Libano di oggi nei suoi diversi ambiti, avvalendosi in particolare dell'apporto di validi studiosi e intellettuali libanesi, il cui contributo scientifico e culturale non è abbastanza conosciuto in Italia. Con la pubblicazione degli atti si intende promuovere una conoscenza del paese, dal punto di vista storico e politico, sociale ed economico, così come dal punto di vista dei più importanti movimenti culturali del momento attuale.
Il convegno ha il fine di suscitare alcuni interrogativi chiave intorno ai più significativi processi di cambiamento in atto in Libano oggi, fornendo spunti di discussione che promuovano una maggiore consapevolezza del complesso e dinamico quadro del paese.

Il convegno si articola su due giornate ed è suddiviso in varie sessioni di lavoro che presenteranno il Libano contemporaneo da numerosi punti di vista. La prima giornata affronterà le tematiche storico-politico-sociali mentre la seconda verterà sugli aspetti socio-culturali e sulle relazioni Italia-Libano.
